Universities in the U.S. are famous, or maybe infamous, for offering really vapid and worthless classes for credit. Some examples the come to mind are “Communicating with Water,” “Exploring the Deeper Meanings of The Simpsons,” “The Kardashians as Role Models,” “Trees as Beings,” and “What Would We Do without the Sun?”
Well it seems the Chinese system of higher learning has jumped far ahead of the U.S. In today’s (October 19) issue of the Global Times it was reported that Xiamen University is offering a course in tree climbing for credit toward graduation. Half of the the course will be devoted to the theory of tree climbing while the second half will involve actually climbing trees.
Some people say Chinese are not creative and original in their thinking. This proves conclusively they are. My hat is off to Chinese higher learning.
