Yesterday I read that “truthers” and “birthers” had been banned from the RedState Blog. So, just for fun, I peeked in on it. There were several posts by Erick Erickson explaining why he made this decision. Fine. It’s his blog, he can do as he chooses with it. I wouldn’t have banned anyone. A few fruits and nuts make the salad more interesting, in my opinion. But RedState is very successful, so Erikson must have the correct instincts.
But while reading I came across an interesting discussion posted by a new member. He said he had been banned from two leftie blogs, and wanted to start posting on RedState. What struck me were the replies he got to the discussion. Many were polite and welcoming, but about half were in the “you need to say what we want to hear or we’ll kick you off” vein. They were warnings, even threats. They said this is not a debating blog, but a blog that promotes mainstream Republicanism, whatever that is.
I was kicked off RedState when I published a diary about the meaning of Republican RINOs. My definition did not fit in with the officially sanctioned RedState definition. I was attacked, mostly with name calling, and a few scattered well reasoned replies. When I mentioned that I live in China the personal attacks and name calling got worse. Then I was disappeared. It was the only time I have been kicked off a blog.
It’s amazing to me that a closed minded, incestuous, blog like RedState can thrive as it does. Obviously Erick Erickson knows something I do not. His blog is extremely popular and influential. But the one thing that strikes me as most interesting is that Republicans are not at all interested in free speech or open debate. Like the old U.S.S.R., you follow the party line, or else.
If RedState represents Republicanism, we should all be very afraid.

The mantra is that the left wants to shut down free speech. They want to control everything by using political correctness, the “fairness doctrine” for broadcasting, etc. It is the right that truly loves free speech. Having never experienced anything else, I believed it to be true.
Well, it is not true. There is a right wing website called RedState. Actually, it is not right-wing, it is a Republican site. If anyone posts a discussion or a comment that in some way is considered anti-Republican, it is deleted. The posters are banned.
Yesterday I posted a discussion about Republican RINOs. It must have gone against the “party line.” In addition, the fact that I live in China came into play. My discussion was deleted, and I was banned from the site.
RedState is a disgrace. The Republican Party should publically distance itself from it.

When I read an article about some unpopular position or law the Democrats are pushing, I enjoy scrolling down to the Comments section. Inevitably there are many posts about how the Democrats have signed their own death warrants, or wait until 2010 and we’ll get congress back, or in 2012 we’ll be rid of Obama.
Others will yammer away about how the Democrats have made themselves irrelevant and obsolete and are going against the flow of history. Still others talk about taking back the Republican Party from the ground up, eventually purging the RINOs on the national level.
If your go on a Republican website like Red State and express doubts about these things your are called names, ridiculed, and sometimes your discussion is deleted. It is as if even thinking these wistful thoughts might not come to pass is heresy.
I wonder why people think this way. There is absolutely nothing to base these thoughts on beyond wishful thinking. The country is more or less evenly divided between big government statists (the statists include most Republicans) and small government conservatives.
Obamacare and other big government schemes promise something for nothing to most everyone except the evil rich. The media has abandoned its role of watchdog in favor being a cheerleader for the statists. Pro-statist positions are seldom questioned or investigated. So why will people suddenly wake up?

A few days ago I published a diary on the Red State political site where I said I would rather not vote than vote for the lesser of two bad candidates. It’s a subject that has bothered me for years, and I was interested in an honest debate on the issue. I was overwhelmed by the responses for two reasons.
1. All of the replies to my discussion were negative toward me, but NOT ONE reply directly addressed the question.
2. The name calling, lack of logic, and closed mindedness, was breath taking.
After a few minutes the discussion was closed by the moderators. Later it was deleted entirely. I guess no dissenting opinions are welcome at RS. Sorry guys, if I did not adhere to the party line. Maybe I can spend next summer in a re-education camp. Republicans good, Democrats bad.
Below is a copy of the post I made on Red State. Unfortunately I did not save a copy of the comments before they were deleted by the Red State moderatorrs.
READY TO WASTE MY VOTE
I am tired of voting for the lesser of two evils. I am tired of voting for someone I am not enthused about. And I am very tired of helping elect statist Republicans with my time and money and votes.
From now on I am on strike. I will only vote for candidates with whom I agree on the issues. I will never again vote for a lesser of two evils or a RINO just to keep a Democrat out of office.
Why help put a candidate in office who will give the Democrats 50% of what they want, then declare it a great victory?
Why help put a candidate in office who proposes slightly smaller programs, taxes and schemes as alternatives to the more grandiose plans of the Democrats?
Why help put a candidate in office who has never repealed a law, cut a program, or fired a bureaucrat?
If there is a choice between a RINO and a Democrat only, I won’t vote at all.
