Iran said it will boycott the 2013 Oscars in protest of the now famous anti-Muslim film made for $1.50 by an unknown director. The trailer was posted on YouTube and caused rioting all over the Muslin world.  How can the Oscars go on? Will they have to be cancelled until the U.S. outlaws free speech?

Well, they might survive. To my knowledge there has been only one Iranian film to win an award in the history of the Oscars. I didn’t see it, but I hear it was a love story between an Iranian man and his camel.

Unfortunately the film world will be deprived of this year’s best Iranian film. I haven’t seen it, but I understand it involves two veiled women reading the Koran to each other while eating goat eyes by hand. Compelling, but not something I can’t live without viewing.
